How Manga Translator Z works on MangaBuddy

Install the extension, open any chapter on mangabuddy.com, and press T. Speech bubbles get detected by the bundled ONNX YOLO model, the original Japanese / Korean / Chinese text is read by GPT-5.4-mini vision, and translations render directly inside each bubble in a manga font (Komika Hand by default). Original art stays underneath — hover any bubble to flash the source language back.

Long-strip vertical infinite scroll. Image URLs follow the pattern /reader/<slug>/<chapter>; chunks load in batches as you scroll past 80% of the current visible chunk.

• Auto-translate-on-load is the killer flow — the moment you click into a chapter the first chunk renders translated
• Infinite scroll prefetch: MTZ pre-translates the next chunk before it enters the viewport so there's no visible 'translating...' state
• Hover-to-reveal works on every bubble even with overlapping speech-balloon shapes — the YOLO detector handles the cluttered layouts

Quirks & what to watch for

• Heavy ad embeds on MangaBuddy can clobber MTZ's intersection observer; if translation seems to stop part-way down a chapter, scroll up a little to re-trigger
• The site sometimes A/B-tests reader UIs — if your overlay disappears after a deploy, reload the page once
